Blackened Wood Structure Emphasizing Gold Leaf Accents for Urban Wellness

Project in-detail

Utilizing blackened wood and gold leaf accents, the design creates a calming urban retreat that prioritizes wellness and sustainability within a bustling environment.
5 key facts about this project
01
Blackened wood detailing enhances durability and aesthetic appeal.
02
Energy-efficient photovoltaic panels integrated into the design.
03
Seasonal water garden promotes biodiversity and environmental harmony.
04
Meditation space specifically designed for tranquility and privacy.
05
Cistern grey water system supports sustainable water management practices.

The design embraces the concept of "Escape," aiming to create a serene space in the midst of urban life. It is located in New York and addresses the challenges of living in a bustling city. The vision is to build areas that promote relaxation and balance, offering a retreat from the fast-paced environment that often surrounds residents. Through careful thought, the design seeks to support moments of reflection and peace.

Conceptual Framework
The project centers around the interplay of calm and energy. It incorporates themes of "nervous energy escape" and "anticipate release," making user well-being a priority. Inspirations are drawn from diverse sources, such as Le Corbusier's Firminy Church and spiritual imagery from Bangkok. These elements work together to create a design that connects with emotions and psychological needs. The reference to "Riga sunset" highlights the importance of light in shaping the experiences of those in the space.

Materiality and Sustainability
Sustainability is a core principle in the design. It is evident in the use of photovoltaic panels and structural insulated panels, which improve energy efficiency. Materials like blackened wood and fly ash concrete are chosen to reflect a commitment to responsible choices. These selections not only ensure durability but also enhance the overall look of the space. The addition of a cistern grey water system further illustrates a dedication to careful resource management, reinforcing the need for sustainable practices in city living.

Interior Organization
Inside, the layout is designed to encourage a balanced lifestyle. Features such as grey water showers and composting toilets are included, alongside rooms for meditation and yoga. These spaces promote well-being and tranquility. A seasonal water garden stands out as a connection to nature amidst the urban setting. Together, these elements create an environment that supports comfort and reflection, blending private and shared spaces for occupants.

Design Details
The entry area is crafted with ceiling mosaic tiles adorned with gold leaf, creating a striking visual against the textures of blackened and bleached pine. This focus on detail enriches the experience of entering the space. The careful selection of materials and thoughtful layout work together to enhance urban living, fostering a strong connection to both nature and personal wellness.
