## Overview

The Vilarejo Verde Senior Living Center is located in a scenic environment, designed to address the needs of an aging population through a focus on community engagement and a peaceful living atmosphere. The layout draws inspiration from traditional Portuguese hillside villages, aiming to enhance the residents' quality of life by promoting social interaction and accessibility in a nurturing environment.

## Site Planning and Connectivity

The design strategically divides the site into public and private zones, featuring green spaces, communal gardens, and a central promenade that facilitates social interaction among residents. Winding pathways enhance mobility, connecting different areas while maintaining a tranquil setting integrated with nature. This planning approach promotes spontaneous gatherings and enables residents to engage meaningfully with their surroundings.

## Materiality and Sustainability

The architectural response to the site’s topography includes six half-meter drops that improve accessibility. Key materials employed in the construction include reinforced concrete for structural stability, wood paneling that adds aesthetic warmth, stone facade elements that blend with the natural landscape, glazed windows that facilitate ample natural light, and green wall systems that promote biodiversity. Sustainability is a core principle, with the use of local materials and the incorporation of community gardens contributing to a reduced ecological footprint. This design fosters an environment that delivers both aesthetic appeal and ecological responsibility.
