Loves Cove, situated at 3315 State Highway 2 in Mangatarata, New Zealand, is a retreat designed for couples seeking a quiet escape. The project combines comfort and a connection with nature through an open-plan layout that invites light and provides views of the surrounding landscape. The design focuses on creating a peaceful atmosphere that highlights the region's natural beauty while offering modern amenities.

Architecture Concept
The vision behind Loves Cove is to merge indoor and outdoor experiences effectively. Large glass panels create open spaces that let in natural light and frame the views outside. The layout is crafted to prioritize comfort, encouraging relaxation for those who stay. Each area flows into the next, designed for easy movement and connection, which enhances the overall experience of the retreat.

Materiality
Materials play a significant role in the retreat's construction and appearance. Rewarewa Glulam Timber serves as the main structural component, offering both strength and an inviting look. Iron Beams and Columns provide necessary support without compromising the aesthetic. Bamboo makes up the interior surfaces, adding texture while emphasizing sustainability. Double Glazed Tinted Glass is used throughout to improve energy efficiency and enhance views of the landscape, contributing to the calm atmosphere.

Spatial Configuration
The layout consists of spaces designed specifically for connection and intimacy. Features like a couple swing, hot bath, and wine bath create inviting moments for relaxation and bonding. The transition between indoor and outdoor areas is designed for smoothness, allowing guests to move freely. The arrangement promotes a sense of closeness and enjoyment, aligning with the retreat’s goal of providing a restful environment.

Landscaping Integration
The landscape surrounding Loves Cove is carefully designed to complement the architecture. Plants such as American Aloe, Yapon Holly, Japanese Forest Grass, Blue Fescue, Swiss Cheese Plant, and Magnolia are incorporated into the setting. This selection enhances the aesthetic and promotes a healthy ecosystem, supporting local wildlife and adding seasonal interest. The landscaping ties the retreat to its environment, creating a cohesive experience that enhances the overall atmosphere.

Each aspect of Loves Cove reflects a thoughtful approach to design. The goal is to provide a space where guests can enjoy the tranquility of nature while benefiting from modern comforts. The attention to detail ensures a relaxing experience, inviting visitors to immerse themselves in both the landscape and the moments shared within.
