Archways and Terraces Shaping Community Living in Stone and Brick

Project in-detail

The integration of a historic stable arch with contemporary stone and brick elements creates a distinctive residential community that enhances the connection between indoor living and the surrounding landscape.
5 key facts about this project
01
The design incorporates a preserved stable arch as a central feature.
02
Terraces in every residential unit maximize views of Mount Subasio.
03
Traditional materials like stone and brick reflect local architectural styles.
04
Shared amenities are strategically placed to encourage community interaction.
05
The layout balances private spaces with communal areas for diverse resident needs.

The design is located in a scenic area that features stunning views of Mount Subasio alongside the historic landmarks of Assisi and Spello. The development serves as a residential space, aiming to create a living environment that is in tune with its natural surroundings. The core idea of this design is to blend contemporary living with the history of the site, showcasing both the reuse of existing structures and an emphasis on outdoor connectivity.

Adaptive Reuse of Existing Structures

At the center of the design is the thoughtful reuse of historical buildings. The larger existing structure includes notable architectural elements, such as the arch from a former stable. This feature has been incorporated into the new design, allowing residents to connect with the history of the site while enjoying modern living conditions. It adds character and depth to the space, creating a dialogue between the old and the new.

Spatial Organization and Views

The layout is carefully crafted to maximize views and ensure accessibility. Each residential unit comes with terraces that offer expansive views of the surrounding landscape, allowing residents to appreciate the area's natural beauty. This arrangement enhances the connection between indoor and outdoor spaces, encouraging a lifestyle that values both privacy and community interactions.

Integration of Vernacular Architecture

The design takes inspiration from local vernacular architecture, integrating elements that reflect the identity of the region. By incorporating traditional architectural details, the development maintains a sense of place while providing modern living spaces. Specific materials, such as brickwork and stone, align with local building practices and enhance the overall aesthetic, promoting harmony with the environment.

Incorporation of Shared Amenities

Shared spaces are thoughtfully placed throughout the development to encourage community interaction. These areas allow residents to connect while still offering privacy within their individual units. The design fosters a sense of belonging, creating a community-oriented environment that balances both private and communal experiences.

The arch from the former stable serves as a key feature, linking the past with the present and highlighting the commitment to preserving the unique story of the site.
