Arced Steel Columns and Pink Pathway Enhancing Natural Observation

Project in-detail

A 6% sloped pathway, defined by arced steel columns and vibrant pink surfaces, creates an accessible observation area that encourages interaction with the surrounding landscape.
5 key facts about this project
01
A 6% slope throughout the promenade ensures full accessibility for all users.
02
The design includes a vibrant pink color scheme, enhancing visibility and aesthetic appeal.
03
Arced steel columns provide structural support while contributing to the unique visual language.
04
An observation area at the top offers panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.
05
Outdoor rubber surfaces enhance comfort and reduce noise for visitors.

The Pink Path is designed to provide an enriching observatory experience through its unique promenade layout. Located within a natural setting, the structure takes on a cubic shape with dimensions of 16 meters by 16 meters, and a height reaching 15.60 meters. The project blends functionality with accessibility and clear visual appeal, inviting users to engage with the surrounding environment.

Structural Design

The primary structure includes four main arced heavy steel columns. These columns are placed diagonally and curve towards a central point at the top of the design. This arrangement enhances the structure's aesthetic and ensures stability. Additionally, four diagonal and four middle columns contribute to its support, delivering a robust framework for the promenade.

Promenade Pathway

The walkway leads to a flat observation area that provides open views of the landscape. With a consistent slope of 6%, the path facilitates movement for all users, including those with wheelchairs or strollers. This feature highlights an important focus on inclusivity, allowing everyone to access and enjoy the space.

Materials and Durability

Outdoor rubber surfaces are essential components of the design. These materials offer durability, require minimal maintenance, and help to dampen sound. Such choices create an inviting environment for visitors. The installation of these surfaces will happen after the ground is stabilized, which is vital for maintaining the path's integrity over time.

Environmental Integration

The design integrates with the local ecology and culture, promoting an understanding of the natural habitat surrounding it. This connection enriches the overall experience for visitors. Moreover, attention has been given to ensuring weather resistance and minimizing vandalism potential, which emphasizes a long-term view in engaging with the environment.

The path’s gentle curves and gradual slopes inspire users to explore at a leisurely pace, encouraging a deeper relationship with the landscape and its inherent qualities.

Competition organisers

The MICROHOME 10 competition invites participants to submit visionary designs for off-grid, modular microhomes that push the limits of sustainable, small-scale living. Organised by Buildner in partnership with Kingspan and Hapi Homes, this tenth edition sets the challenge of designing a dwelling for two people within a maximum floor area of 25 m², encouraging bold solutions adaptable to any urban or rural location. The competition continues Buildner’s mission to foster innovative approaches to compact, energy-efficient housing that can address pressing global challenges.

This year’s edition offers a generous total prize fund of €100,000, including the Kingspan Award for designs that integrate high-performance Kingspan products and the Hapi Homes Award for a project selected for real-world construction. In addition to cash prizes, the winners gain international exposure through Buildner’s media partnerships, publications, and a dedicated MICROHOME magazine, further amplifying their ideas to the wider architectural community.

Key dates for MICROHOME 10 include the closing date for registration on 25 September 2025, the submission deadline on 29 October 2025 (11:59 p.m. London time), and the announcement of winners on 9 December 2025.
