The guesthouse and café at Iceland Thermal Springs is a well-conceived structure that blends with the surrounding natural features of Iceland. Situated close to the impressive Hverfjall Volcano, the building serves as a shared space where guests can interact and connect with both each other and the landscape. The design is based on the principles of the golden ratio, creating a harmonious environment that emphasizes comfort and community while providing a unique experience.

Central Living Area

The lounge and living area act as the main gathering point within the guesthouse. This open space includes a gourmet kitchen, inviting guests to engage in meal preparation together. The layout encourages social interaction, allowing individuals to share experiences and enjoy communal activities. Such a setup fosters a warm atmosphere where visitors can connect over food and conversation.

Apertures and Views

Key to the design are the strategically placed apertures in the roof. These openings invite natural light into the space and provide opportunities to observe the aurora borealis. Guests can enjoy the beauty of this natural phenomenon without stepping outside, fully experiencing the wonders of the environment from within a comfortable setting. This feature enhances the overall enjoyment of the space and creates memorable moments for visitors.

Individual Guest Rooms

Guest rooms are designed to maximize privacy while framing stunning views of the landscape. Large glass panels in each room allow occupants to gaze at the Hverfjall Volcano and the surrounding scenery. This thoughtful arrangement ensures guests have a peaceful retreat that does not compromise their connection with the Icelandic outdoors.

Geometric Form and Integration

The guesthouse combines various geometric shapes, including blocks and cubes arranged at different angles. This dynamic layout adds visual interest and engages the eye. The design reflects the natural landforms, encouraging exploration and interaction. Additionally, landscaping around the building uses native plants, reinforcing the connection to the local environment and making it an integral part of the overall design.

Lighting is an essential aspect of the design, contributing to the atmosphere of the space. Fixtures are positioned below eye level to provide soft illumination. This thoughtful arrangement allows guests to enjoy a comfortable environment while keeping views of the aurora borealis clear. The approach underlines a focus on blending indoor comfort with the striking natural surroundings.
