Flock is proposed within the Al Wathba Wetland Reserve in Abu Dhabi, known for its rich wildlife, particularly its flamingo populations. The design aims to enhance the visitor experience while protecting the delicate ecosystems of this habitat. It serves as a connection between people and nature, highlighting the importance of environmental stewardship.

Design Concept

The design integrates the built environment with the surrounding landscape. By elevating the structure above the ground, wildlife can move underneath without disturbance. This height also offers broad views of the wetlands, allowing visitors to engage with the ecosystem. The architecture responds to the local conditions, establishing a balance between natural elements and human activity.

Materials and Sustainability

Lightweight construction primarily uses sustainable wood. Choosing wood supports ecological goals and minimizes the need for extensive excavation. This approach allows the structure to blend into its environment and reduces its visual impact. The material is essential not just for building but also contributes to the overall look and feel of the space.

Technical Features

An efficient louvered system allows natural light to enter while reducing heat gain. This design element enhances energy efficiency and supports passive cooling, keeping the interior comfortable. The arrangement of windows and shaded areas creates a pleasant atmosphere, making visitors feel welcome.

Visitor Experience

Accessibility is key to the design, with pathways and viewing spots in place for all visitors. The planning encourages exploration and learning about local wildlife and conservation. The layout invites guests to connect with nature and appreciate the importance of preserving this unique environment.
