5 key facts about this project
The Nemrut Viewing Platform is located in the Nemrut region of Turkey, designed to provide elevated views of the area's geological features, including the Nemrut volcano. The structure functions as a viewing and gathering space for both tourism and educational purposes, facilitating engagement with the landscape while maintaining a careful dialogue with its natural context.
Spatial Strategy
The platform encourages exploration through a central staircase leading to the observation deck, providing multiple vantage points of the surrounding terrain. Sheltered areas, seating, and informational displays support both relaxation and educational use. The layout balances communal and individual experiences, promoting interaction while allowing visitors to engage with the natural environment.
Materiality and Sustainability
A combination of steel, perforated metal panels, and wood defines the structural and experiential qualities of the platform. Steel provides structural support, while perforated panels create visual and physical connectivity to the landscape. Wood is used for seating and flooring, introducing warmth and tactility. Local materials and construction methods were prioritized to reduce environmental impact and support regional craftsmanship, integrating sustainability into both design and execution.
User Experience
The design emphasizes connection to the surrounding landscape through unobstructed views and accessible circulation. Flexible spaces accommodate gathering, observation, and educational activities, allowing visitors to interact with both the site and one another. The careful integration of form, materials, and circulation supports a functional and context-sensitive architectural response.
