The Puff is a mobile coffee kiosk that reinterprets the idea of a temporary café by combining functionality with a striking visual identity. Designed for urban environments, it serves coffee while creating an engaging spatial experience. At its center is a floating reflective balloon, resembling an oversized coffee bean, which acts as both a focal point and an adaptable element within the city landscape.

Floating Balloon as Focal Point

The balloon is conceived as the kiosk’s defining feature, drawing attention and shaping the atmosphere of the space. Clad in reflective aluminum, it mirrors and distorts its surroundings, integrating the kiosk into different urban contexts while offering shade and shelter from rain. Its dual role—functional and symbolic—emphasizes the balance between playfulness and practicality.

Modular Structure

Beneath the balloon canopy, the kiosk is organized as a series of modular units designed for mobility and adaptability. Each unit sits on caster wheels, allowing reconfiguration depending on location and service needs. The main workstation combines counter space with integrated shelving for efficient workflow, while supplementary units, such as display counters and seating modules, support customer interaction and flexibility.

Lightweight Roof and Sunlight Management

The roof system is designed for lightness and ease of assembly, enabling the kiosk to be installed or dismantled quickly. A nylon cable screen, drawing inspiration from Japanese latticework, filters direct sunlight while casting dynamic patterns. The movement of the cables creates a constantly shifting canopy, providing shade and enhancing the lively atmosphere around the kiosk.

Reflective and Interactive Design

The reflective surface of the balloon creates a dialogue between the kiosk and its environment. By capturing light and distorting urban views, it generates a playful sense of curiosity for passersby. This interactive quality reinforces the project’s ambition: to transform a simple coffee stand into an event-like presence that engages with both the city and its inhabitants.
