5 key facts about this project
Memoir is a conceptual study set in a scenic area of Bergen, Norway, exploring how a small-scale kiosk can combine environmental responsiveness with user experience. The design draws inspiration from the form of a coffee cup, with spatial and functional elements organized to support both service efficiency and sensory engagement. The proposal addresses local climatic conditions while creating a compact, visually recognizable structure.
Concept and Sustainability
The roof is shaped to resemble a cup lid and simultaneously functions as a rainwater collection tank, integrating sustainable water management into the design. An efficient ventilation system channels warm interior air through grilles, helping to melt snow and maintain usability during colder months. These strategies allow the kiosk to operate effectively throughout the year while minimizing reliance on external resources.
Sensory Engagement and Materiality
Ventilation openings are positioned to disperse the aroma of brewed coffee into the surrounding environment, enhancing the sensory experience for visitors. Construction materials include glazed glass and wood, selected for their durability, visual quality, and connection to the natural setting. Glass permits natural light and panoramic views, while wood introduces warmth and texture.
