Please tell us about your company (when it was founded, where it is based, how many employees, etc) Alternatively, if you do not have a company, please give us some insights on your own professional/academia background.
I am currently a first-year Master of Architecture student at the University of Sydney.
What does architecture mean to you and what is the role of an architect in your society?
Architecture, to me, is the intersection of creativity, function, and culture, shaping spaces that influence how people experience the world. The architect's role in society is to create environments that respond to human needs, reflect cultural identity, and promote sustainability while pushing the boundaries of innovation and design.
Why do you participate in architecture competitions?
I participate in architecture competitions to challenge my creativity, test my ideas in a real-world context, and gain exposure to new perspectives. It's an opportunity to push boundaries, learn from others, refine my skills in design and learn new tools and software; I want to keep improving.
What advice would you give to individuals who struggle to decide whether it would be beneficial for them to participate in architecture competitions?
I encourage them, if time and resources allow, to embrace competition as a valuable opportunity for growth, even if it is uncertain. There's nothing to lose—only things to gain: valuable experience, enhanced creativity, and improved problem-solving skills. Participating can boost confidence, expand your network, and open doors to future opportunities.
