Yi Zhou, Yikai Chang, Tianshuo Liu and Haoxuan Liang from Australia
Our team is made up of four good friends. We have spent five years studying architecture together at the University of New Wales, we have just landed jobs and were hoping to close out our college years by creating an amazing architecture project together.
What does architecture mean to you and what is the role of an architect in your society?
Architecture has the power to make a space become a place. In that space, we immerse in the ambience, we say what has never been said, we do what has never been done. An architect gives people the opportunity to experience the fantasy beyond time and space. Architects are inspired by the wild, vivid images from their memories and teasing with people’s sensory experiences. Architects preserve their intentions in each brick and timber; then, as time goes by, their work stand the test of time, allowing the architect's emotion to touch everyone who visits the building.
Why do you participate in architecture competitions?
It is a unique way to celebrate our graduation and the new stage in our lives. I enjoy the freedom that architecture competitions give me in terms of architectural design, and the joy the freedom brings reminds me of why I started studying architecture in the first place, and who I am.
What advice would you give to individuals who struggle to decide whether it would be beneficial for them to participate in architecture competitions?
Why not? A successful competition project can not only improve your portfolio, but also expose you and your concept to the world.
