What does architecture mean to you and what is the role of an architect in your society?
Architecture is at the center of our daily experience—it shapes how we live, work, learn, and connect. At its best, it creates authentic spaces that enhance lives, strengthen communities, and craft environments that are deeply rooted in context, culture, and purpose. Thoughtful design emerges from a process that values curiosity, collaboration, and a commitment to performance, ensuring that every space is both meaningful and enduring.
As architects, we embrace the responsibility to listen, explore, and push boundaries. We approach each project with a mindset of discovery—engaging communities, uniting disciplines, and elevating craft to deliver spaces that inspire. Through design, we have the ability to promote wellbeing, drive innovation, and contribute to a more resilient and inclusive future. Our role is to create places that not only serve today but evolve and adapt for generations to come.
Why do you participate in architecture competitions?
We are leaders and members of Studio X, a specialized design studio within Page, created to assist teams in delivering elevated design responses by enhancing the creative process and expanding design possibilities. Within Studio X, our FUTURES initiative is dedicated to design-fueled innovation—driving ideation and prototyping to explore new directions in design. Competitions provide a platform to engage with complex challenges, test emerging concepts, and develop solutions that spark meaningful dialogue. They encourage us to push beyond conventional constraints, producing work that is both visionary and technically rigorous. Competitions also give us the freedom to experiment, collaborate across disciplines, and refine ideas that may shape future projects. They challenge us to communicate bold concepts with clarity, deepening our understanding of design’s impact on the built environment.
What advice would you give to individuals who struggle to decide whether it would be beneficial for them to participate in architecture competitions?
For those unsure about participating, we recommend choosing a competition that sparks curiosity and challenges conventional thinking. These opportunities encourage us to think critically, push design boundaries, and develop solutions that might not yet have a place in mainstream practice. They allow us to refine our skills, strengthen our ability to communicate ideas, and engage in interdisciplinary problem-solving. Even if a competition does not result in a win, the experience of working iteratively and developing a compelling design response strengthens our ability to address real-world challenges. The work we do in competitions informs our practice, fuels new ways of thinking, and reinforces our duty to advance architecture in ways that are innovative, responsible, and impactful.
