The Sound of Food is a forest food court located in Latvia, designed to blend sound, sight, and taste into an enjoyable dining space. This setting encourages visitors to engage with local food culture while being enveloped by natural sounds and the atmosphere of the surrounding forest. The design seeks to create not just a place to eat, but an experience that resonates on multiple sensory levels.

Layout and Social Engagement

The layout of the food court features ample seating and communal spaces that encourage interaction among visitors. This design promotes inclusivity and a sense of community. Modular seating arrangements inspired by the Rubik's Cube allow flexibility in how the spaces are arranged. Each seating unit can easily be moved, catering to different group sizes and social settings. The adaptability of the space is key to creating a lively environment where people can connect and enjoy their meals together.

Cultural and Musical Themes

The design draws from Latvia's rich musical heritage, reflecting its cultural significance. Some design elements evoke musical notation, adding an additional layer to the experience. For example, the exit is shaped to resemble piano keys, enhancing the relationship between food and music. This thoughtful integration heightens the overall sensory experience, making each visit memorable for guests.

Sustainable Material Choices

Sustainability plays an important role in the choices made for the food court. The primary material used is timber, chosen for its natural attributes that create a cozy and inviting atmosphere. Timber also aligns with eco-friendly practices, as it can be sourced sustainably. Prioritizing local timber helps to support the economy and reduces the carbon footprint associated with transporting materials.

Design Detail

The outdoor dining area includes modular furniture, comprising two chairs and a table that can be arranged or separated into a square structure when not in use. This design enhances usability, allowing for various seating arrangements while also facilitating movement. Such thoughtful details create a welcoming and interactive experience, inviting visitors to enjoy their meals comfortably in the heart of the forest.
