5 key facts about this project
## Overview
Pousada Oliveira is located within a picturesque region known for its rolling hills and abundant olive groves. The design intent focuses on integrating the architecture with the natural landscape while celebrating the cultural significance of olive oil production by the Verde family. The facility aims to enhance communal experiences and promote sustainable practices amidst its surroundings.
## Spatial Organization and User Interaction
The architectural layout facilitates a fluid transition between public and private areas, encouraging interaction among visitors. Central to this design is "The Kiln," a domed dining space that allows natural light and ventilation, fostering an inviting atmosphere for gatherings. Open-plan living spaces integrate cooking and dining, further promoting community engagement. Additionally, outdoor terraces provide shaded areas that enhance connectivity to the landscape, allowing occupants to experience nature directly.
## Material Selection and Sustainability
A strategic selection of materials underpins the project’s commitment to sustainability and local heritage. Terracotta BIPV panels on the south facade serve dual purposes, generating solar energy while reflecting the region's traditional aesthetics. Sourced local Portuguese timber and terracotta facade paneling contribute to the structure's natural appeal and insulation properties. The incorporation of a green roof enhances biodiversity and further integrates the building within its landscape. Decorative elements, such as traditional Portuguese mosaics, reinforce cultural connections while maintaining a modern architectural narrative.
