Studio: Recreate is located in the Latvian forests by Lake Cernoste. It serves as a workspace and temporary living quarters for two artists and their families. The overall design blends residential and creative areas, creating an environment conducive to artistic expression while respecting the natural surroundings.

Design Concept and Functionality

The layout is organized into two levels, distinctly separating work and leisure. The lower floor is dedicated to creativity, providing room for artistic activities, while the upper floor offers recreational spaces. This arrangement allows individuals to focus on their creative processes without losing the comfort of personal space.

Spatial Relationships

Large window openings create a visual connection to the lake and forest. These openings maximize natural light and enhance the feeling of being outdoors. The design takes full advantage of the vibrant natural elements around it, allowing the landscape to influence the interior experience. This connection with nature enriches the living environment.

Material Choices

The project emphasizes simplicity and sustainability. Locally sourced stones and wood chips from existing structures are used, which helps keep costs down and reduce environmental impact. Wood is the main construction material, reflecting traditional local building practices. This choice helps the structure blend into its environment while providing flexibility in design.

Flexibility and Adaptability

Thick screen walls offer customization, enabling residents to adjust their spaces according to personal needs. This flexibility is essential, as the work areas must function well even during varied occupancy. The design avoids large components that can complicate transport and assembly, favoring smaller sections for pieces like windows, making construction more efficient.

A well-designed terrace extends from the main living areas, connecting inside and outside. This feature invites the natural landscape into daily life and encourages interaction with the tranquil surroundings.
