The design located in Moses Valley offers a blend of built space and natural surroundings, creating an atmosphere of calm and introspection. Set within a wooded area, the structure aims to enhance the experience of users by drawing them into a peaceful environment filled with natural elements. The design concept focuses on forging a strong connection to the landscape, balancing practical needs with an aesthetic that respects its context.

Terrace and Railing Design

A key feature of the project is the terrace, framed by a corten steel railing. This material is chosen for its durability and its ability to visually echo the colors of the landscape. The terrace serves as a space where users can enjoy expansive views of the valley while encouraging relaxation and reflection. With its overhanging form, the accommodation facility appears to float above the valley, highlighting openness and engagement with the natural environment.

Orientation and Functionality

The building is oriented to face west, allowing occupants to enjoy the views of the sunset. This positioning supports designated areas for meditation and outdoor yoga, encouraging activities that promote mindfulness in daily life. The design integrates outdoor spaces that invite users to connect directly with their surroundings, enriching the experience of living in nature.

Structural Stability and Sustainability

For structural support, the project employs a helical light pole screw anchoring system. This method offers stability while minimizing impact on the landscape. By choosing this foundation method, the design strives to maintain ecological balance in the area, demonstrating care for its natural context. Attention to soil stability reflects a commitment to reducing environmental harm through thoughtful construction practices.

Integration of Spaces

The layout effectively combines public and private spaces, allowing for both social connection and personal solitude. The arrangement of the structures facilitates a gradual connection to the existing environment, ensuring continuity with the valley’s natural features. By taking solar orientation into account, the design maximizes exposure to natural light, creating a welcoming atmosphere at different times throughout the day.

The terrace not only serves as a central area for gathering but also connects with the landscape, enabling smooth transitions between indoor and outdoor spaces.

The Next House: USA — A Global Call to Reimagine the American Suburb

`
Competition organisers

Buildner is launching The Next House: USA, a global architecture competition that challenges architects, designers, and thinkers to reimagine the American suburban home for the 21st century. For decades, the suburban house has symbolized comfort and stability, but today it often reflects excess, isolation, and environmental strain. This competition asks: how can the American home evolve to address climate urgency, economic pressures, and shifting social values?

Participants are tasked with designing a prototype home of no more than 1,500 sq ft (≈140 m²) for a household of two adults and one child. The design should be compact yet generous, adaptable, sustainable, affordable, and replicable across diverse U.S. contexts. More than a design exercise, the competition aims to spark a conversation about how homes can support healthier, smarter, and more connected communities.

The total prize fund is $20,000 USD. The final registration deadline is May 20, 2026, and winners will be announced on September 22, 2026. The Next House: USA invites architects, students, and visionaries worldwide to redefine what the American home means today—and what it should mean tomorrow.
