## Overview

The design of the Portugal Elderly Home addresses the specific needs of elderly residents while prioritizing functionality and comfort. Located in a serene environment, the facility integrates contemporary design principles with a commitment to the psychological and physical well-being of its inhabitants, using natural materials and sustainable practices throughout the project.

## Spatial Strategy

The layout is carefully planned to facilitate ease of movement and accessibility among residents. Residential units are distributed across multiple levels, each equipped with private outdoor spaces that enhance privacy while still promoting social interaction in communal areas. Key services and shared spaces, such as the dining room and lounges, are centrally located to encourage community engagement. Large windows in these areas maximize natural light and foster a connection to the surrounding landscape.

## Material and Sustainability

The architectural design prominently features timber cladding, which serves a dual purpose: aesthetically enriching the façade and providing thermal insulation. Expansive glass panels throughout the building create transparency and enhance light penetration, minimizing reliance on artificial lighting and contributing to energy efficiency. Concrete elements ensure structural integrity, while metal fixtures add aesthetic and functional support. Landscaped gardens surround the building, not only enhancing visual appeal but also developing active outdoor spaces that encourage residents' interaction with nature.

Incorporating energy-efficient systems and natural ventilation methods further underscores the design's commitment to sustainability and indoor air quality. This intentional focus on intertwining indoor and outdoor environments facilitates therapeutic benefits linked to nature, thereby supporting the overall health and well-being of the elderly community. Adaptability is also a key feature, with flexible floor plans designed to evolve in response to the changing needs of residents.
