Vertical Community Hubs with Integrated Smart Living Features

Project in-detail

Incorporating mini-hubs for community engagement and smart living capabilities, the design addresses high-density urban needs while facilitating connections among residents.
5 key facts about this project
01
Mini-hubs facilitate localized community interactions within the vertical design.
02
Smart technology integrates into living units to enhance daily life.
03
Proximity to transport options supports reduced reliance on personal vehicles.
04
Landscaped areas provide green spaces that improve resident well-being.
05
The design prioritizes a blend of private and communal spaces for social connectivity.

The Hong Kong Vertical Community represents a thoughtful response to the realities of urban living in one of the world’s most crowded cities. This project focuses on creating a lively community within vertical structures. The design is meant to promote social connections while making the best use of limited space. The result is an environment that encourages interactions among residents.

Community Integration

The design carefully blends private living spaces with shared areas to foster connections. Communal hubs, referred to as "迷你會 旺角 太子," play a key role in building relationships among neighbors. These shared spaces are essential for gatherings and activities, helping residents feel more connected in a high-rise setting.

Accessibility

Location is another important factor. The project is close to public transport, as highlighted by "近地鐵「買買」." Easy access to transit options simplifies daily commutes and allows residents to navigate the city efficiently. This focus on accessibility supports a lifestyle that is less dependent on private vehicles and encourages the use of public transportation.

Technological Integration

The mention of "電訊數碼 SUN 旅運會租房 | 位元堂" suggests a focus on modern technology within the homes. Incorporating smart home features enhances the living experience for residents. These technological aspects are essential for meeting the needs of those living in a bustling urban environment.

The design includes green spaces that naturally weave through the buildings, allowing for calming areas that improve the overall atmosphere. These aspects not only add visual appeal but also promote a healthier living environment for residents, making the community more inviting and sustainable.

Competition organisers

The MICROHOME 10 competition invites participants to submit visionary designs for off-grid, modular microhomes that push the limits of sustainable, small-scale living. Organised by Buildner in partnership with Kingspan and Hapi Homes, this tenth edition sets the challenge of designing a dwelling for two people within a maximum floor area of 25 m², encouraging bold solutions adaptable to any urban or rural location. The competition continues Buildner’s mission to foster innovative approaches to compact, energy-efficient housing that can address pressing global challenges.

This year’s edition offers a generous total prize fund of €100,000, including the Kingspan Award for designs that integrate high-performance Kingspan products and the Hapi Homes Award for a project selected for real-world construction. In addition to cash prizes, the winners gain international exposure through Buildner’s media partnerships, publications, and a dedicated MICROHOME magazine, further amplifying their ideas to the wider architectural community.

Key dates for MICROHOME 10 include the closing date for registration on 25 September 2025, the submission deadline on 29 October 2025 (11:59 p.m. London time), and the announcement of winners on 9 December 2025.
