The food court design for the Sansusi music festival creates a space that allows attendees to relax and connect during an outdoor event. Set within a natural environment, the pavilion acts as a central hub where people can take a break between performances. The concept, named "Caesura," reflects the idea of a pause in music, enhancing the overall experience of the festival and encouraging social interaction among guests.

Functional Layout

The pavilion features three distinct caterer spaces, each designed for efficiency and comfort. Measuring 9 m², each area can accommodate three staff members while providing necessary storage and shelving. The arrangement promotes smooth operations by keeping service areas separate from seating zones. This layout not only improves the flow of the space but also contributes positively to the dining experience for festival-goers.

Flexible Seating Arrangements

Seating options are thoughtfully arranged around and within the pavilion to encourage community engagement. Various seating configurations allow visitors to gather and interact comfortably. The large terrace also offers opportunities for different activities like yoga and family events, making the pavilion a versatile space that can adapt to changing needs throughout the festival.

Material Integration

The choice of materials plays a significant role in the design’s overall aesthetic and function. Timber pillars and beams create structural support while adding a natural touch to the environment. The polycarbonate roof allows ample natural light to fill the pavilion, which brightens the space. Additionally, EcoHemp curtains provide weather protection, ensuring that visitors remain comfortable in varied weather conditions.

Design Illumination

At night, the pavilion shines with a warm light that invites visitors to stay longer. Strategic lighting enhances the atmosphere, making the space feel cozy and welcoming. This careful attention to illumination not only highlights the architectural features but also creates an engaging environment that encourages people to gather and enjoy the ambiance.

The pavilion serves as a vital space for social interaction and connection, effectively tying together the different experiences of the festival while remaining in harmony with the surrounding nature. Its practical design allows it to meet the needs of a diverse range of activities, enriching the overall festival experience for all attendees.

`
Competition organisers

The Buildner’s Unbuilt Award 2025 is an international architecture competition dedicated to recognizing and celebrating the value of unrealized architectural designs. It invites architects, designers, and students worldwide to submit visionary projects that have not yet been constructed, highlighting the power of ideas and the creativity behind the design process. By focusing on unbuilt work, the competition aims to bring forward concepts that shape the future of architecture and push the boundaries of the profession.

Participants can compete in three categories based on project scale: Small Wonders (up to 100 m²), Medium Marvels (101–999 m²), and Large Visions (over 1,000 m²). Each category winner will receive €20,000, and additional prizes include honorable mentions, student awards, and a special Best Presentation Award. Winning projects will gain significant international exposure through Buildner’s publicity campaign and a feature article on ArchDaily, providing a unique opportunity to showcase creative ideas to a global audience.

The Buildner’s Unbuilt Award 2025 encourages entrants to submit any type of unbuilt project, from conceptual visions to detailed designs, celebrating bold innovation without the constraints of realization. Important deadlines: registration closes on October 30, 2025; submissions are due by November 20, 2025; winners will be announced on December 17, 2025.
