Subtractive Granite Structure With Vegetated Roof Embracing Natural Surroundings

Project in-detail

A subtractive granite form integrates a vegetated roof and utilizes local materials to create a serene environment for yoga and communal activities.
5 key facts about this project
01
A subtractive approach allows the structure to blend seamlessly with the natural terrain.
02
Local granite stone is used for the main façade, emphasizing regional materiality.
03
A vegetated roof enhances insulation and manages rainwater effectively.
04
Natural light permeates all spaces through strategically placed openings.
05
The design fosters community interaction with integrated indoor and outdoor areas.
The architectural project "Ruínas" is a designed structure that integrates closely with the natural landscape, promoting a dialogue between built form and environment. It serves multiple purposes, including spaces for yoga and communal gathering, encapsulating the essence of tranquility while accommodating various functional needs. The project embodies a philosophy of harmony with its surroundings, suggesting a modern yet respectful relationship with nature.

Materiality is a central theme in "Ruínas." The primary material, massive granite stone, is sourced locally, establishing a tactile connection to the site. This choice not only adheres to sustainable practices by minimizing transportation but also enhances the aesthetic with its natural textures. Complementary materials include wooden beams for the roofing, which offer warmth and durability, and metal for structural elements such as doors and windows. The integration of these materials underpins the design’s authenticity and responsiveness to its environment.

Design elements within "Ruínas" reflect a conscious effort to cultivate community and individual reflection. The layout features interconnected spaces, such as a yoga shala, a courtyard, and communal kitchens, facilitating both social interaction and solitude. The courtyard acts as a focal point, merging interior and exterior experiences and encouraging use by all visitors. Unique to this project is the roof design, which incorporates vegetation that aids in rainwater management and further emphasizes the connection to nature.

The design approach of "Ruínas" is distinctive in its use of a subtractive technique, where the structure appears to emerge from the landscape rather than disrupt it. This method fosters the feeling of the building integrating with the existing topography, providing visual continuity with the natural surroundings.

Architectural plans and sections illustrate the thoughtful organization of spaces. Each drawing details how these rooms interrelate functionally and spatially, supporting the overall goals of the project.

The strategic use of natural light throughout the structure enhances the ambience within, ensuring that each area is inviting and conducive to its intended activities. This attention to light, along with the chosen materials and design approaches, establishes "Ruínas" as a thoughtful and functional project rooted in its ecological context.

It offers a comprehensive view of how the careful selection of materials and strategic design elements work together to create a cohesive architectural narrative.
