5 key facts about this project
01
Meditation capsules are arranged in a circular layout inspired by the enso symbol.
02
The design incorporates bioluminescent lamps for ambient lighting.
03
Modular cabins allow for adaptability in size and configuration.
04
Rotating walls provide dynamic spatial experiences.
05
Mobile elements facilitate self-separation within communal areas.

The design focuses on creating a space for meditation and mindfulness, guided by the concept of PRANA, which represents life force energy. This principle shapes the overall vision, highlighting the importance of emotional well-being and spiritual growth. Meditation capsules are arranged in a circular layout, evoking the enso symbol that embodies completeness. This configuration not only encourages personal reflection but also fosters a sense of community among users.

Design Flexibility

Modularity is a key feature, allowing for different cabin sizes and arrangements. This flexibility meets various user needs, making the space more accessible and functional. Mobile elements within the design enable self-separation in enclosed areas, promoting individual space while still supporting group interaction. The inclusion of rotating walls adds a dynamic quality, letting users personalize their experience according to their meditation practices.

Focus on Minimalism

The design embodies minimalism throughout, which helps create a peaceful environment for meditation. By emphasizing simple and clean aesthetics, the space reduces distractions and supports clarity of thought. This intentional simplicity reflects a deeper desire to create an environment that nurtures solitude and tranquility.

Structural Considerations

Essential structural features include a roof and metal framework that provide stability while keeping the interior light and open. The rotating walls enhance functionality and offer visual interest. A bioluminescence lamp contributes soft, ambient lighting, reinforcing a calming atmosphere for meditation practices.

Every detail in the design is thoughtfully executed, responding to the increasing need for spaces that support emotional health and personal development. Each element works together to create an environment that facilitates a deep connection with oneself and cultivates inner peace.

`
Competition organisers

The MICROHOME 10 competition invites participants to submit visionary designs for off-grid, modular microhomes that push the limits of sustainable, small-scale living. Organised by Buildner in partnership with Kingspan and Hapi Homes, this tenth edition sets the challenge of designing a dwelling for two people within a maximum floor area of 25 m², encouraging bold solutions adaptable to any urban or rural location. The competition continues Buildner’s mission to foster innovative approaches to compact, energy-efficient housing that can address pressing global challenges.

This year’s edition offers a generous total prize fund of €100,000, including the Kingspan Award for designs that integrate high-performance Kingspan products and the Hapi Homes Award for a project selected for real-world construction. In addition to cash prizes, the winners gain international exposure through Buildner’s media partnerships, publications, and a dedicated MICROHOME magazine, further amplifying their ideas to the wider architectural community.

Key dates for MICROHOME 10 include the closing date for registration on 25 September 2025, the submission deadline on 29 October 2025 (11:59 p.m. London time), and the announcement of winners on 9 December 2025. These milestones ensure participants have clear timelines to develop and present their concepts, with early registration discounts available to support students and emerging designers worldwide.
