Metal Framework and Translucent Fabric Enhancing Cyclist Connectivity Along a Scenic Route

Project in-detail

A metal framework combined with translucent fabric creates a visually open and interactive space for cyclists along the Eurovelo 6 route, providing essential rest areas and information points that enhance connectivity to the surrounding landscape.
5 key facts about this project
01
Void Cube design allows for easy reconfiguration based on user needs.
02
Translucent fabric fosters visual connections with the surrounding landscape.
03
Ground treatments include hollow, stepped, and raised configurations for enhanced interaction.
04
Mobile units enable flexible functionality along the cycling route.
05
Strategically placed viewing decks provide panoramic perspectives of the area.

The Void Cube is an architectural intervention along the Eurovelo 6 cycling route, designed to provide multifunctional spaces for cyclists and tourists. The project emphasizes flexibility and user experience while integrating with the surrounding environment. Its overall concept is based on adaptability, ensuring the space can transform to meet various needs along the cycling path.

Design Concept

At the center of the Void Cube is its geometric shape, which promotes familiarity and simple navigation for users. The design allows for multiple configurations to fulfill different roles such as rest areas, information points, and shelters. Each unit is thoughtfully designed to enhance the cycling experience and encourage interaction with nature.

Functional Components

Distinct areas like The Bubble offer bike racks and sleeping spaces, while The Twins include restroom facilities alongside bike storage. Other units, such as The Path and The Blossom, provide scenic viewing decks and social areas with seating and fireplaces. Each component is crafted to address specific needs, fostering a connection between people and the environment.

Site Treatments and Structural Integrity

The ground surrounding the Void Cube features various treatments, including hollow, stepped, hovering, or raised sections. These design choices not only add visual interest but also promote engagement with the landscape. The metal framework supports both mobility and stability. Columns are designed to screw into the ground, ensuring robust support while allowing for easy removal or adjustment.

Final Design Detail

Translucent fabrics in specific areas create a visual link to the outside, allowing natural light to enter the space. This thoughtful detail enhances the overall atmosphere of the Void Cube, resulting in a welcoming environment along the Eurovelo 6 route.
