Campfire Gatherings Among Impregnated Wood in a Biophilic Food Court

Project in-detail

Using adaptable furniture made from impregnated wood, the design creates dynamic spaces for communal dining and cultural events set within a natural forest, fostering a deep connection between visitors and the environment.
5 key facts about this project
01
Adaptive furniture molds to the forest's irregular morphology, enhancing environmental integration.

The design incorporates a circular table arrangement, fostering communal dining experiences.
03
A dedicated campfire area encourages informal gatherings and social interaction.
04
Preparation and storage areas are discreetly integrated, maintaining a clean appearance.
05
Impregnated wood materials ensure durability and weather resistance for outdoor use.

The SANSUSI FESTIVAL food court is designed to immerse visitors in a natural forest setting, offering a space where people can enjoy food and art together. The design aims to change the typical dining experience into something more engaging and connected to its surroundings. By integrating with nature, it allows the forest to play an active role in the festival atmosphere.

Design Integration with Nature

The architecture includes a system known as "Adaptive Furniture," which molds to the natural shape of the forest. Furniture and dining elements are placed thoughtfully among the trees, showing a commitment to the environment. This design choice highlights the importance of blending structures with the landscape. It respects the existing nature while providing a functional space for gatherings.

Flexible Space Organization

The layout of the food court features a circular table that serves as a central point for people to gather and share meals. This arrangement encourages both group dining and personal moments. Additional areas include a fire pit for casual gatherings and a counter that serves drinks at night. These features contribute to the versatility of the space, allowing it to accommodate different types of activities throughout the festival.

Operational Efficiency and Aesthetic Cohesion

Thoughtful planning is evident in the design's operational aspects. Preparation and storage areas are well integrated, ensuring that the dining experience remains pleasant. These behind-the-scenes elements do not detract from the overall visual appeal. Instead, they support the smooth operation of food service while maintaining an inviting atmosphere for visitors.

Material Selection for Longevity

Materials chosen for construction prioritize durability and weather resistance. The project uses impregnated wood, including 2x2" modules and 5x1" planking. These selections are important for maintaining the structure, and they also connect visually to the forest environment. The combination of these materials ensures the installations will withstand outdoor conditions while complementing the natural setting.

Through these design decisions, the food court provides an inviting space that encourages social interaction, artistic expression, and a strong connection to nature. Visitors can enjoy their meals amid the beauty of the forest, where the boundaries between dining and the natural world gently fade away.
