5 key facts about this project
The "Conversation with Nature" project is designed for Al Wathba Wetland Reserve in Abu Dhabi. It focuses on enhancing the connection between visitors and the natural environment. The structure features a continuous circular ramp that provides a 360-degree view of the wetlands. This design not only encourages exploration but also ensures accessibility for all visitors.
Design Concept
At the heart of the design is the circular ramp that shapes the observation tower. This ramp allows people to experience the landscape from various heights and angles. The pathways guide visitors directly to the top or lead them down to the forested area surrounding the base, promoting a sense of journey and discovery within the natural habitat.
Material Use
Tree trunks are used in place of typical timber to construct portions of the ramp. This choice aligns with the natural setting and enhances the tactile experience as people navigate through the space. The boardwalks are raised about 15 cm off the ground, supported by a lightweight steel framework that connects the structure to the environment while minimizing disruption to the landscape.
Environmental Integration
The design includes a water misting system situated at the tower's top. This system generates a mist cloud that helps cool the air around the observation deck. By using high-pressure nozzles, fine droplets are created that evaporate quickly, absorbing heat and providing a comfortable environment for visitors. This feature invites individuals to engage more closely with the climate of the wetland.
Structural Aesthetics
The overall structure blends into the wetland, maintaining a balance between function and visual appeal. The raised design and organic shapes of the tree trunks create an engaging environment that encourages visitors to appreciate the richness of the ecosystem. As they move along the ramp, the mist gently envelops the tower, adding an atmospheric quality that enhances the experience of being in nature.
