River Hearth is a small wellness resort located along the Venta River, designed to create a connection between people and nature. The site includes five cabins, a traditional sauna pavilion, and a fireplace area surrounded by terraces and a dock for rowing boats. The design focuses on rural and sustainable tourism, offering visitors a peaceful place for relaxation and exploration.

Architectural Layout

The layout of River Hearth mimics the flow of a stream, guiding visitors along a winding path that leads to various discovery points. Each cabin rises high above the landscape, balancing privacy and openness. While guests can find solitude in their individual cabins, communal areas like the sauna and terrace encourage interaction. This thoughtful arrangement invites visitors to engage with both the space and each other.

Materiality and Construction

Wood is the primary construction material, allowing for a lightweight structure that aims to reduce environmental impact. The exterior features birch cladding, which enhances the natural look of the cabins and helps them blend into the surrounding environment. Insulated walls provide thermal comfort, while underfloor heating adds warmth during colder periods. These choices reflect an overall commitment to sustainability.

Environmental Context

The Venda River plays an important role in the design approach, as its gentle flow and natural beauty influence the overall atmosphere of the resort. Known for its calm waters and notable for containing the widest waterfall in Europe, the river enhances the visitor experience. The architecture creates a setting where tranquility and nature coexist, offering a space for reflection and relaxation.

Design Detail

A key feature of the cabins is the inclusion of a hearth. Each cabin has its own fireplace, creating a warm, inviting space for guests. This design detail not only enhances comfort but also allows occupants to appreciate the surrounding landscape while enjoying the warmth of the fire. It fosters a closer connection to nature, encouraging moments of tranquility in a serene environment.
