Elevated Winery with Ionic Columns and Natural Stone Elements

Project in-detail

With its prominent Ionic columns and the use of local vulcanized stone, the winery harmoniously integrates classical architectural elements into the landscape of Umbria, providing a functional space for wine production and visitor engagement.
5 key facts about this project
01
Ionic columns elevate the main structure, reflecting classical Roman influence.
02
A spacious west-facing balcony offers unobstructed sunset views over the vineyards.
03
The winery utilizes locally sourced vulcanized stone, emphasizing regional craftsmanship.
04
Design incorporates natural light through strategically placed openings and a dome.
05
Guest accommodations blend traditional Italian country house style with modern comfort.

The Tili Winery is situated on the stony hillsides of Mount Subasio in Umbria, Italy. It serves as a family-run organic farm dedicated to producing quality wines and extra virgin olive oil. The design blends with the natural landscape, creating a space for visitors to learn about the winemaking process while enjoying the beauty of the surrounding vineyards and olive groves.

Architectural Inspiration
The design draws from classical Roman architecture, featuring elements that pay homage to historical forms. The use of 21 Ionic Roman columns elevates the main structure, giving it a presence that resonates with visitors. A grand staircase leads to a dome that allows natural light to fill the central area, creating an inviting interior that encourages exploration.

Functional Layout
Inside, the layout is designed for ease of use and visitor engagement. Spaces for wine tastings, guided tours, and interactive activities are arranged to create a smooth flow between different areas. The large west-facing balcony opens up to stunning views over the vineyards, especially at sunset. This design choice enhances the visitor experience by offering moments of connection with the scenery.

Guest Accommodations
The guest houses reflect the style of a traditional Italian country home, focusing on comfort and privacy. Outdoor seating areas invite guests to relax among the gardens, providing a quiet space to appreciate nature. Each detail helps to create a welcoming atmosphere suited for those wishing to experience the rural landscape.

Materiality and Sustainability
Materials used in the winery emphasize local craftsmanship and environmental responsibility. Italian vulcanized stone, wooden ceilings, and ornate tiles contribute warmth and character to the interiors. These choices not only enhance the building’s aesthetic but also align with the winery’s efforts towards sustainability and minimal environmental impact.

A significant design detail is the attention to natural light. The placement of windows and openings allows light to filter in throughout the day, creating a play of light and shadow that enriches the spaces inside, making each visit memorable.
