"Earth, Wind & Sun" is a yoga space designed with an emphasis on harmony with nature. Located in a serene environment, the design focuses on creating an atmosphere that encourages mindfulness and self-reflection. The overall concept centers on the integration of three elemental themes—Earth, Wind, and Sun—allowing practitioners to connect with their surroundings while engaging in their practice.

Design Concept

The journey begins in a garden that serves as a grounding element, inviting users to leave behind the noise of daily life. This lush entry point sets the tone for a peaceful experience within the building. The structure is raised on piles, which not only enhances its aesthetic appeal but also maintains a connection to the land, allowing water to flow naturally beneath it. This careful siting promotes a sense of unity with the environment.

Spatial Experience

Moving through the space, swinging curtains create a playful interaction with the element of Wind. As practitioners transition from the dressing area to the practice space, these curtains invite a gentle movement, enriching the overall experience. This design element fosters a fluid relationship between indoor activities and the changing outdoor conditions, supporting the practice's dynamic nature.

Materiality

Materials chosen for the project reflect a commitment to sustainability and regional identity. Wood flooring is used for its comfort and sensory qualities, providing a sense of warmth underfoot. Portuguese volumetric tiles are featured prominently, showcasing local craftsmanship and tying the space to its cultural roots. Eco-friendly roof sheets made from non-recyclable plastic waste highlight an innovative approach, addressing environmental concerns while maintaining functionality.

Light and Atmosphere

Natural light plays a crucial role in shaping the space's atmosphere. Large openings allow sunlight to fill the interiors, creating a warm and inviting environment. This access to daylight not only improves the visual experience but also encourages a connection to the rhythms of nature. The interplay of light enhances the user's journey, fostering a sense of peace and clarity during each practice.

The design emphasizes an engagement with nature and self, creating an environment where users can deeply connect with their yoga practice. Thoughtful details throughout the space invite reflection and contemplation.
