The Painters' Lake House is a residential design that complements its natural surroundings while emphasizing sustainability and environmental awareness. Located in a tranquil setting, it serves as a comfortable home, built to withstand various weather conditions. The design focuses on functionality and aims to create a living space that works in harmony with the environment.

SUSTAINABLE ARCHITECTURE

The architectural approach of Painters' Lake House is rooted in sustainability. It is constructed to resist the elements, including heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind. This careful consideration leads to a structure that requires minimal maintenance, allowing residents to enjoy their home while keeping upkeep to a minimum.

SPATIAL LAYOUT

Inside the house, the layout is organized to balance personal privacy and shared living areas. Bedrooms, bathrooms, and common spaces are arranged to encourage social connection while providing comfort. This design fosters a sense of community among residents, while also respecting their need for personal space.

ROOF GARDEN

One significant feature of the Painters' Lake House is its roof garden. This element enhances the aesthetics of the building while improving its energy efficiency. The garden contributes to natural insulation by regulating indoor temperatures. Additionally, it provides a habitat for local wildlife, including a rare species of bat that uses the roof area for resting during warmer months.

MATERIALITY AND ENVIRONMENTAL INTEGRATION

The architectural style reflects a careful consideration of the surrounding landscape. The design maximizes the use of natural light and ventilation, which help improve energy efficiency. The shape and form of the house are created to blend with the environment, supporting a thoughtful approach in residential design that values both beauty and practicality.

The roof garden connects the building to the landscape while showcasing a commitment to environmental responsibility. This thoughtful integration highlights the Painters' Lake House as an example of modern living that respects and nurtures both people and the natural world.

The Buildner’s Unbuilt Award 2025: Celebrating Architectural Creativity and Visionary Unbuilt Designs with a Total Prize Fund of €100,000

`
Competition organisers

The Buildner’s Unbuilt Award 2025 is an international architecture competition dedicated to recognizing and celebrating the value of unrealized architectural designs. It invites architects, designers, and students worldwide to submit visionary projects that have not yet been constructed, highlighting the power of ideas and the creativity behind the design process. By focusing on unbuilt work, the competition aims to bring forward concepts that shape the future of architecture and push the boundaries of the profession.

Participants can compete in three categories based on project scale: Small Wonders (up to 100 m²), Medium Marvels (101–999 m²), and Large Visions (over 1,000 m²). Each category winner will receive €20,000, and additional prizes include honorable mentions, student awards, and a special Best Presentation Award. Winning projects will gain significant international exposure through Buildner’s publicity campaign and a feature article on ArchDaily, providing a unique opportunity to showcase creative ideas to a global audience.

The Buildner’s Unbuilt Award 2025 encourages entrants to submit any type of unbuilt project, from conceptual visions to detailed designs, celebrating bold innovation without the constraints of realization. Important deadlines: registration closes on October 30, 2025; submissions are due by November 20, 2025; winners will be announced on December 17, 2025.
