The Iceland Movie Center is located in an area that showcases the natural charm and cultural depth of Iceland. It functions as a community center offering a range of activities, including film screenings, concerts, exhibitions, and dining. The design focuses on creating visibility and connection, making it easy for visitors to engage with both the building and its environment.

Architectural Approach

The design incorporates various multifunctional spaces to serve different community needs. Key elements of the center include a cinema, archive, restaurant, and concert café. Each space is thoughtfully arranged to help people move through the building smoothly. This layout not only improves efficiency but also encourages interaction among visitors.

Materiality and Performance

Sustainable cork panel cladding is an important aspect of the design, reflecting a focus on environmental responsibility. This choice enhances both the look of the building and its ability to manage sound and temperature. The natural qualities of cork support a favorable atmosphere for public engagement and enjoyment in various spaces.

Spatial Composition

Inside the center, the arrangement of spaces is clear and functional. On the first floor, there are reception areas, multifunctional spaces, and necessary facilities such as restrooms and security rooms. This setup prioritizes the visitor experience by guiding them through well-defined circulation paths.

Technical Functionality

The upper floors enhance the overall functionality of the center by including technical rooms essential for operations. Spaces for sound control, film preservation, and other technical services demonstrate the commitment to quality programming while ensuring smooth functioning.

Every detail in the center's design adds to a welcoming atmosphere for community activities. The use of natural light and thoughtfully positioned windows invites a connection to the surroundings, allowing visitors to appreciate the cultural offerings available.
