Quinta do Bom Lugar is located in the scenic environment of Monte d'Oiro Vineyard. It serves as a wine tasting room and educational space, emphasizing a connection between the building and its surroundings. The design promotes an appreciation for the landscape that contributes to the wine's story, showcasing how architecture and nature can work together.

Design Concept

The overall concept emphasizes the experience of visitors, highlighting the relationship between the structure and the vineyard. Positioned on elevated ground, the design allows for wide views of the surrounding fields. Visitors move through the space with ease, following a path created by ramps and inclined planes that guide them from the winery down to the vineyards. This path enhances their journey, encouraging them to engage with the site.

Visitor Experience

Upon entering the wine tasting room, guests find themselves in an environment that resembles a cave, enhancing their sensory experience. Large windows provide views of the landscape, creating a bond between the indoors and the outdoors. The interior includes a long table that invites social interaction, while a counter area is prepared for food offerings during tastings. This layout is designed to foster communication among visitors and enrich their time spent in the space.

Materiality

Concrete is the primary material used in the building’s structure, offering strength and flexibility in design. The use of wood for furnishings adds warmth and comfort to the interior, striking a balance with the concrete. A backlit wall showcases notable harvests from the vineyard, deepening the connection between visitors and the local wine culture. This display not only highlights the vineyard's achievements but also enriches the tasting experience.

Connecting with Nature

A portal invites visitors to the vineyards, encouraging exploration of the land where the grapes are grown. This pathway into nature emphasizes the importance of the surrounding environment in winemaking. Visitors can touch, smell, and see the ingredients that produce the wines, enhancing their overall understanding of the process. The careful integration of indoor and outdoor elements creates a rich experience that highlights the relationship between the winery and its beautiful setting.
