03
A flexible envelope structure allows for diverse functions under a single roof.
04

05
The use of local materials promotes sustainability and environmental harmony.

Situated in North Portugal, "ENCIRCLE" brings a fresh approach to communal living through its engaging design. It emphasizes the importance of shared spaces and the connection between nature and community. The project revolves around a circular layout that is not completely finished, encouraging flexibility and adaptability. This allows the environment to change along with the residents' needs.

Design Concept

The layout features a circular shape that enhances openness and connection among users. With openings on the East and West sides, the design allows natural light and fresh air to enter while framing views of the landscape. A central courtyard acts as the project's core, providing space for various activities like yoga, performances, and communal meals. This design promotes social interaction and strengthens community bonds.

Circulation and Accessibility

The circulation system emphasizes ease of movement throughout the space. Main pathways connect all areas to ensure accessibility. Exterior ramps are integrated into the design, ensuring that everyone can navigate the environment comfortably. This attention to circulation and accessibility supports a sense of belonging among residents while accommodating different uses within the space.

Materiality and Structure

The project employs several materials that enhance its functionality and visual character. Featured elements include a tile roof, wooden beams, concrete roof slabs, and brick veneer, all contributing to the building's durability. Insulation and air spaces help maintain a comfortable environment. Inside, wooden wall boards and columns create a warm, inviting atmosphere that encourages communal activity.

Design Detail

A key feature of "ENCIRCLE" is its ability to provide individual spaces defined by unique envelopes under a single roof. This arrangement allows for diverse functions while maintaining a consistent architectural style. The thoughtful design highlights the integration of the communal space with the natural surroundings, encouraging collaboration and engagement among residents.
