The "Restangle" project represents a contemporary approach to residential architecture, designed to accommodate the evolving needs of urban dwellers. Situated within a compact area of 25 square meters, the project embodies a blend of functional spaces that prioritize both living and working. The architectural design aims to create a harmonious environment that fosters connectivity among residents while also providing zones for privacy and rest.

The project incorporates three main functional areas: the kitchen/living area, the bedroom, and an outdoor space. Each zone has been carefully planned to ensure optimal use of the limited footprint while maximizing the flow of natural light and air circulation. The kitchen/living area serves as a multifunctional hub, equipped for both cooking and remote working. The design features sliding windows that dissolve the boundary between indoors and outdoors, allowing for greater interaction with the surrounding environment.

The separate bedroom is positioned to promote rest while maintaining visual links to the main living space, ensuring natural illumination even in more private areas. An adjacent outdoor zone has been included to enhance the living experience, doubling as an area for relaxation and potential gardening.

Design a new small-scale home concept in the 10th edition of MICROHOME — 100,000 € prize + construction

Competition organisers

The 10th edition of the MICROHOME architecture competition invites architects and designers from around the world to explore the possibilities of compact, sustainable living. Hosted by Buildner in collaboration with Kingspan and Hapi Homes, this special edition challenges participants to design an off-grid, modular microhome for a young professional couple, with a maximum floor area of 25 m². Designs should prioritize innovation, efficiency, and real-world feasibility. 

A total prize fund of 100,000 € will be awarded, including three main prizes, the Kingspan Award, and the Hapi Homes Award, which will grant 15,000 € and lead to the construction of the selected design.
