We’d like to take the opportunity to introduce you to one of our Honorable mention winners for our “Iceland Cave Tower” competition – Jad Silvester, Penny Fuller, Bruce Feng and Alexandra Hopkins from Australia!
Silvester Fuller Team from Australia
Silvester Fuller’s work spans a broad range of project types, including public, residential, commercial, hospitality, and education. Behind our design process is a commitment to discover the hidden potential within each project. We approach each project as a unique challenge, yet all are focused on creating environmentally, socially, and economically sustainable spaces for living. Our projects share a rationality of thought, often with surprising outcomes.
What does architecture mean to you and what is the role of architect in your society?
Architecture provides us with the avenue to affect positive change in our community, be it locally or globally. Whilst we learn from the past, we prefer to look to the future, test new ideas and inspire others. We believe even small projects can set big examples.
Why do you participate in architecture vision competitions?
Competitions provide an avenue for the exploration of ideas, often beyond the constraints of conventional project commissions. To grow as a designer, we believe, this exploration is critical. The competition process also enables our studio to explore new project opportunities which otherwise we would not have access to.
What advice would you give to individuals who struggle to decide whether it would be beneficial for them to participate in architecture vision competitions?
Architecture vision competitions often allow a design freedom that does not exist within a conventional project. They also provide an opportunity to demonstrate a design capability in response to a project type that we may not yet have been given by a client. We also find ideas originating in competitions, even unsuccessful submissions, can inspire a direction for other projects or attract new clients drawn to us by the concepts proposed in a competition.
