The design is located in the Kalsnava Arboretum in Eastern Latvia, an area celebrated for its variety of trees and plants. The facility aims to create a space for the community that encourages interaction with nature and learning about the environment. The overall design combines elements of historical buildings with modern needs, resulting in a structure that fits comfortably into its landscape.

Design Concept and Layout

The focus is on preserving key features of the original building while adding new spaces that promote both personal reflection and community gatherings. Inside, there is a Silence Room dedicated to meditation, alongside a kitchen and dining area that encourages people to come together. A library is also included, providing a quiet place for study and conveniently located next to the meditation hall to foster a peaceful atmosphere.

Key Architectural Features

On the top floor, the main event hall takes advantage of a gable roof, which opens up the space and provides a calm environment for meetings and activities. This design choice allows for clear sound and a feeling of openness. The arrangement of spaces promotes easy movement throughout the building, linking private areas to public zones, which helps bring people together.

Connection with Nature

A notable aspect of the design is the winter garden, built where part of the original structure was removed. This garden serves as a lively display of plants from the Kalsnava Arboretum, making it educational as well as attractive. An outdoor sauna and hot tub further enhance the connection to the natural surroundings, offering a relaxing escape for visitors.

Material Considerations

The project highlights a commitment to sustainability, using materials that are environmentally friendly. Wooden window frames are part of the design, supporting the aim of harmony with the natural world. These materials not only enhance the visual appeal but also ensure the building is functional and efficient in its setting. Large windows throughout the facility invite in natural light and connect indoor spaces to the views of the arboretum, enhancing the overall atmosphere.
