EZERS STUDIO is located in Latgale, Latvia, a region known for its many lakes. It aims to create a strong connection among temporary residents, nature, art, and community. By shaping the layout and design of the space, the project encourages an experience of the landscape and enhances the overall living environment for its users through carefully positioned windows that invite views of the surroundings.
STUDIO SPACE
The studio space allows for flexibility, with partitions and curtains that can be arranged to meet the artists' individual needs. This design encourages creativity, letting each resident personalize their workspace. Natural light plays a significant role, with features such as light chimneys that help brighten the studio while ensuring a link to the outside world.
COMMUNITY HOUSE
The community house acts as the core area for daily interactions. The design connects various height levels, guiding movement from the shore to the courtyard and promoting social engagement. Inside, the space features a shared kitchen, dining area, and casual sitting zones for gatherings. A large screen that can be hidden away allows for movie nights, balancing communal and private moments.
PRIVATE BUILDING
The private building offers families their own living spaces, which include smaller common areas and bedrooms. The children's rooms are designed on two levels with an adjoining door, allowing for both privacy and connection. A net above the small living room is a special detail that welcomes stargazing, enhancing the appreciation of nature from within the home.
The project employs timber facades, reflecting the traditional architecture of Latvia while focusing on sustainability. It incorporates long-lasting and recyclable materials, as well as reused elements from older buildings, which reinforces a responsible approach to construction. This design highlights the importance of living in harmony with the surrounding environment and offers a thoughtful response to the needs of its residents.
