The Sansusi Food Court offers a thoughtful blend of dining and nature. Located in a setting rich with trees, the design accommodates 90-100 visitors through three modular food counters, each featuring devoted storage space. The layout fosters a communal atmosphere and respects the natural environment by integrating existing trees into the space, which enhances the connection between people and nature.

Design Intent

The overall concept focuses on preserving the natural landscape while creating a functional dining experience. The counters are arranged in a triangular pattern that promotes interaction among guests. By keeping the surrounding trees, the design showcases an intention to maintain ecological balance, demonstrating how built spaces can work with natural landscapes.

Structural Features

A notable aspect of the design is the tent-suspended roof. It offers protection from the elements while allowing natural light to illuminate the interior. The rounded shapes of the counters create a welcoming environment that makes it easy for visitors to gather. This choice contributes to the accessibility of the food court, encouraging socialization among guests.

Materials and Construction

Wood is used for the main vertical elements of the structure, providing both visual appeal and support. Plywood covers the counters, ensuring they are practical and durable. The floor comprises OSB, which adds stability, while concrete footings anchor the entire structure securely in place.

Functional Dynamics

The design features a perimeter counter for standing meals, adding a communal aspect to dining that encourages guests to connect. A curtain system allows for modifications based on weather conditions, enhancing the flexibility of the space. These elements work together to create a comforting environment that serves the needs of both diners and vendors.

With its careful arrangement of spaces, the project highlights the beauty of nature alongside culinary enjoyment, crafting an atmosphere that enhances the overall experience for visitors.
