Project in-detail

The integration of a rolling ladder and graywater systems allows for a multifunctional space in a compact family home that addresses both everyday living needs and sustainability.
5 key facts about this project
01
Cottage Core employs a Murphy bed that converts into a desk, maximizing functionality in a small footprint.
02
A rolling ladder provides access to pop-up entertainment areas, adding a playful element to the design.
03
The project incorporates graywater recycling systems, promoting sustainability in everyday use.
04
Tankless electric water heaters enhance energy efficiency and minimize space requirements.
05
Solar panels are integrated into the design, contributing to self-sufficiency and reduced utility costs.

Cottage Core is an architectural design focused on the challenges of housing affordability in urban settings. Located in areas where space is limited, the structure serves as a rentable option for lower and middle-class families working to improve their homes. The design promotes a multifunctional approach, seamlessly combining essential living spaces with the flexibility needed for various activities, including work and relaxation.

Multi-Functional Layout

The layout consists of several distinct areas, including a bed and desk, bathroom, kitchen, closet, and utility space. This organization maximizes efficiency and ensures all necessary functions are within reach. The Murphy bed that doubles as a desk highlights effective space management, allowing residents to change the room's use as needed. Additionally, a rolling ladder provides access to entertainment zones, enhancing the living experience with an element of fun.

Sustainability Features

Cottage Core emphasizes sustainability with innovative systems designed to reduce environmental impact. It includes a tankless electric water heater, an electric generator, and solar panels, all of which help improve energy efficiency. Water collection systems are also part of the design, enabling rainwater capture for reuse. Graywater routes facilitate irrigation, supporting eco-friendly living practices and conserving vital resources.

Aesthetic Inspiration and Interaction

The design draws inspiration from indoor forts and storybooks, aiming to create a warm and inviting atmosphere. This approach fosters a sense of comfort while remaining practical for everyday use. The elements work together to make the space feel cozy and accessible, positioning it as a unique option for those living in smaller environments.

The final detail features a rolling ladder integrated into the layout, providing both access and a playful touch, enhancing the character of the living space.
