Located in Yellowstone National Park, the memorial draws attention to historical conservation efforts.

Wolf Passage is a holistic memorial located in Yellowstone National Park. The project highlights the historical and ecological role of the Grey Wolf (Canis lupus) in North America. Its design focuses on coexistence, demonstrating the relationship between wolves, their habitats, and human activities. The aim is to foster awareness and educate visitors about the importance of preserving wildlife.

Wildlife Corridors

The project emphasizes the importance of wildlife corridors, identifying locations along rivers where wolves follow deer and elk. These natural pathways play a critical role in ensuring safe movement for wolves and maintaining ecological balance. By incorporating these corridors into the design, Wolf Passage supports habitat preservation and the health of local ecosystems.

Reflective Silhouettes

A key element of the design is the use of reflective metal silhouettes of wolves. These silhouettes serve as visual markers within the landscape, connecting visitors with nature. Their presence prompts reflection on the historical significance and ecological contributions of wolves. Placed thoughtfully throughout the memorial, the silhouettes encourage interaction with the environment.

Educational Signage

In addition to the silhouettes, the project features informative signage. These signs alert drivers to the possibility of wildlife and educate visitors about the significance of wolves in the area. This dual purpose enhances safety while providing important information about the ecological impact of wolf populations. The educational value strengthens the memorial’s role in promoting conservation awareness.

Materials and Construction

For construction, Wolf Passage utilizes reflective metal for the silhouettes, ensuring visibility and durability. Concrete footings provide structural support, while embedded steel tubes enhance stability. A gravel base allows for proper drainage, promoting the longevity of the memorial.

The design invites visitors to engage with the landscape. It encourages contemplation of the essential part wolves play in maintaining ecological balance, reminding all of the responsibility to protect these wildlife corridors.
