Project in-detail

Crafted with clay brick vaults and organic wood accents, the design seamlessly integrates into the Umbria Valley landscape while providing an immersive space for wine tasting.
5 key facts about this project
01
Crafted using locally sourced clay brick, enhancing thermal efficiency and integration with the landscape.
02
Arched vaults designed to optimize acoustics and natural light within the tasting spaces.
03
Extensive use of climbing vegetation to soften structural edges and promote biodiversity.
04
Utilizes cross-laminated timber for structural elements, reinforcing sustainability through local sourcing.
05
Strategic placement of communal and private areas fosters a balance between social interaction and solitude.
The architecture of "The View-Yard" represents a sophisticated interplay between the built environment and the natural landscape of the Umbria Valley. This design project centers around a wine tasting facility, created to enhance the sensory experience of wine tasting while deeply integrating with its surroundings. The project emphasizes the themes of growth, rest, and enjoyment, aimed at creating spaces where visitors can engage with both the wine and the environment.

The facility includes multiple interconnected structures designed to accommodate various functions. Key components of the project consist of communal dining areas, tasting bars, and private accommodations for guests. The layout fosters a natural flow of movement, guiding visitors through vibrant spaces that encourage interaction while also offering opportunities for solitude.

The project utilizes organic shapes inspired by the forms of vineyards and rolling hills. This design approach not only enhances aesthetic appeal but also serves functional purposes, such as maximizing natural light and ventilation. By employing materials like clay brick, wood, glass, and vegetation, the project ensures sustainability and a strong connection to the landscape.

Unique Design Approaches

One of the significant aspects of "The View-Yard" is its emphasis on blending structural forms with the landscape. The arched structures echo traditional wine cellars while allowing for significant overhead space that enhances the experience of the interiors. This form is more than a stylistic choice; it provides practical benefits, including improved acoustics and thermal performance.

The project's material palette is carefully chosen to reinforce the connection to nature. Clay brick provides thermal mass, while wood elements enhance the warmth of the interiors. Extensive use of glass fosters transparency, allowing unobstructed views of the vineyard and creating a continuous dialogue between the indoor and outdoor environments. The inclusion of climbing plants contributes to the aesthetics by softening edges and promoting biodiversity.

Functional Design Elements

"The View-Yard" comprises distinct zones that reflect its multifunctional nature. Communal spaces, strategically positioned, facilitate social interaction among guests, featuring large windows that frame the landscape. Private areas are designed for comfort, allowing users to enjoy the serene surroundings without compromise to privacy.

The design integrates sustainable practices, evident in the choice of materials and the natural ventilation strategies utilized throughout the facility. This approach not only reduces the project's environmental footprint but also enhances the overall experience for visitors.
