LUNA is a residential design for a couple of writers, situated in the Higher Vosges region of France, amidst the landscape of Lake Gérardmer. The home focuses on creating a deep connection with the natural surroundings. The architecture emphasizes maximizing natural light and providing an inspiring space conducive to creativity.

Natural Light Optimization

The design prioritizes the effective use of natural light throughout the home. Windows are positioned with care, allowing sunlight to enter living areas and illuminate them. Large glazed surfaces help create a bright environment while framing views of the mountains and the tranquil lake. This integration of daylight enhances the overall experience for the inhabitants.

L-Shaped Courtyard

An important aspect of the design is the L-shaped courtyard, which connects indoor areas to outdoor spaces. This layout encourages outdoor activities and provides a setting for brainstorming sessions. The courtyard serves as a transition space, allowing the couple to move easily between inside and outside.

Zoning for Functionality

The interior layout clearly separates private areas from communal ones. Bright living spaces are designed for writing and socializing, while the bedroom is deliberately positioned in a more secluded, darker area. This thoughtful zoning supports both focus and comfort, creating a balance between functionality and privacy.

Moonlight Integration

The design also considers moonlight as an additional light source. The center of the building captures moonlight reflections from the lake, creating interesting light patterns inside. This detail enriches the home’s atmosphere in the evening, providing a unique experience that encourages reflection and creativity.

Strategic design choices combine to create a home that engages with its surroundings, keeping the needs of the occupants in mind while maintaining harmony with the natural landscape.
