Glazed Veranda Overlooking Panoramic Views With Restored Original Bricks

Project in-detail

Restored original bricks form the backbone of a design that incorporates a glazed veranda, allowing for panoramic views of the Umbrian landscape while creating versatile guest house accommodations.
5 key facts about this project
01
Restored original bricks preserve the building's historical character.

Glazed veranda enhances indoor-outdoor connectivity with scenic views.
03

Located in rural Umbria, the design emphasizes the careful preservation and adaptation of historical buildings, ensuring their continued relevance in modern use. The project seeks to revitalize existing structures, highlighting their essential forms while integrating contemporary elements that enhance functionality. This focus creates a strong connection between the built environment and the picturesque landscape.

Restoration of the Central Building

At the center of the design is the main building, which has experienced significant wear over time. The restoration aims to return it to its original shape using the remaining original bricks for structural repairs. Areas that are damaged will be repaired with glazing, allowing for clear views of the surrounding countryside. This approach not only respects the building's historical significance but also enhances the visual connection between inside and outside.

Extension of the Shed

Alongside the main building, an extension to the existing shed enhances the site’s functionality. This new addition features large windows that frame views of the beautiful rural surroundings. Beneath the roof of the shed is a glazed veranda, which provides a comfortable space for gatherings and can be used in all seasons. This design invites guests to spend time together while enjoying the warmth of a fireplace.

Preservation of the Main Building

Aiming to keep its original form, the main building will be preserved and repurposed as a restaurant. Internal reinforcements, such as metal beams, will support the structure while maintaining its traditional appearance. The layout allows for a second level with bar seating, creating varied dining options. Guests can choose to dine on the ground floor or on an upper balcony, balancing social experiences with the opportunity for quiet moments.

Integration of Communal Spaces

The design incorporates communal areas that encourage interaction among guests, while also providing spaces for solitude. This thoughtful approach recognizes the importance of both shared and private experiences within the architecture. Attention to layout ensures that each space serves its intended purpose, creating an inviting environment for all visitors.

One important detail is the glazed veranda beneath the shed’s roof. It allows guests to enjoy the outdoors while being sheltered, reinforcing their connection to the tranquil Umbria landscape.
