The architectural design of 東京ビル (Tokyo Building), created in 2022 under the name PARS, is situated in the fast-paced streets of Tokyo. The structure showcases a concept that emphasizes the contrast between lively urban life and calm spaces for personal reflection. The design introduces a cabin that serves as a place of meditation, described metaphorically as "a congealed rain, a frozen waterfall," highlighting its role as a peaceful escape from the surrounding environment.

Design Concept

At its core, the idea behind the design focuses on creating a refuge that promotes mindfulness. The structure offers an inviting space for individuals to step back from their busy lives and connect with themselves. The cabin stands in contrast to the vibrant surroundings, presenting a serene environment for quiet thought. The thoughtful layout includes public areas like a net café and capsule facilities on the fifth floor, complemented by recreational spaces for activities such as darts and mahjong on the fourth floor.

Spatial Organization

The arrangement of spaces within the building effectively balances public and private experiences. Social areas encourage interaction and community building, while the cabin provides an opportunity for solitary reflection. This thoughtful organization ensures that the structure serves multiple purposes, accommodating both individual and shared activities within an urban setting.

Material Experience

The choice of materials plays an important role in shaping the experience of the cabin. The project features metal, nylon, stone, wood, sound, and wind. Each of these materials contributes to the overall atmosphere, strengthening the connection between people and their surroundings. Natural materials like stone and wood create a sense of warmth and comfort, while the use of metal and nylon adds a contemporary touch that enhances functionality.

Sensory Elements

The design facilitates a rich sensory experience for users. The gentle movement of stones, the soft light that filters through the cabin, and the way city sounds transform into a calming backdrop all work together to create a meditative environment. Visitors are encouraged to change their perception of time, stepping away from the busy rhythm of urban life to embrace a slower, more mindful pace.

Within this setting, the stones serve as meaningful symbols of both personal identity and the shared experience of urban life. They connect the individual contemplative experience to the vibrant environment that surrounds the cabin.
