Floral Canopies and GRC Structures in a Reflective Columbarium Setting

Project in-detail

With its floral canopies crafted from Glass Reinforced Concrete and tranquil limestone pathways, the columbarium embodies a thoughtful integration of natural elements and functionality, providing a serene space for remembrance.
5 key facts about this project
01
Floral canopies are designed from Glass Reinforced Concrete, enhancing both aesthetic and structural integrity.
02
A dual layout separates public access from family spaces, promoting both community engagement and privacy.
03
Limestone pathways create a natural flow throughout the site, connecting memorial areas seamlessly.
04
Innovative use of ambient lighting contributes to a serene atmosphere during evening hours.
05
The integration of a central water feature encourages reflection and tranquility within the columbarium.
The project serves as a contemporary columbarium designed to support memorial practices within a tranquil cemetery environment. It pays homage to the importance of remembering loved ones while facilitating contemplation and reflection. By employing architectural elements that echo natural forms, the design integrates seamlessly with its surroundings, creating a space that encourages connection to nature and the cyclical aspects of life and death.

Innovative Design Approach

A unique aspect of the project is its circular layout, symbolizing continuity and growth. This design choice facilitates smooth visitor circulation while allowing for intimate engagement with the memorials. The public and family columbarium sections are distinct, reflecting both communal and private needs. This division promotes a comfortable setting for varying forms of remembrance.

The roof’s floral-inspired canopies not only enhance the visual identity but also serve a practical function by providing shelter and shade. This architectural feature signifies life and vitality, fostering a sense of harmony. Materials such as Glass Reinforced Concrete (GRC), limestone, and marble are selected for their durability and aesthetic qualities, ensuring the longevity of the structure while maintaining a solemn atmosphere.

Architectural Details and Materiality

The project features meticulously planned spaces including a funeral room, a public columbarium, and a family columbarium, each serving specific functions. Strategic placement of a fountain area acts as a focal point, inviting visitors to pause and reflect.

The use of sustainable materials reinforces the commitment to environmental stewardship. The interplay of glass and concrete produces a modern aesthetic while allowing natural light to penetrate interior spaces, creating a comforting ambiance. The design prioritizes accessibility through thoughtful pathways leading to all areas, ensuring that the columbarium is welcoming to all visitors.
