Elevated Metal Grate Deck with Local Wood Integration for Nature Engagement

The Meshed project at Pape Nature Park in Latvia presents a thoughtful design that blends human activity with the surrounding landscape. Located in a vibrant ecological setting, it features an elevated metal grate deck that enables various outdoor activities such as camping, bird watching, and exploration of nature. The design emphasizes ecological preservation and aims to create a space that invites visitors to interact with the environment.

Design Concept

The main idea of Meshed revolves around lifting structures above the natural ground level. This design approach allows for enjoyable experiences without harming the local ecosystem, enabling visitors to engage with wildlife and plant life. Elevated areas encourage sunlight to reach the ground below, which helps support the growth of vegetation.

Gateway and Upper Deck

The entrance to the project uses a mesh design that aligns with the overall concept, providing shade while remaining accessible for vehicles. Once visitors enter, they discover the upper deck. This space offers open views of the landscape and is designed for activities like walking, reading, and relaxation. It invites guests to connect with the natural environment and enjoy the sights and sounds around them.

Ground-Level Amenities

At the ground level, various facilities cater to the needs of visitors. There are camping spots, an outdoor kitchen, and areas for socializing, including playgrounds and common rooms. These amenities enhance the experience, ensuring that visitors can fully engage with the outdoors while also finding comfort and social connection.

Sustainability Measures

Sustainability is an important focus of the design. Local wood is used for indoor areas, helping to strengthen the relationship between the built environment and nature. Floating solar panels are integrated into the design to support energy needs. This approach not only aids in reducing water evaporation from nearby resources but also aligns with the commitment to ecological integrity.

The design thoughtfully includes openings that allow trees and plants to flourish naturally beneath the elevated deck. This consideration ensures a genuine interaction between human activities and the landscape, promoting a respectful coexistence for all who visit.
