Cross-Laminated Timber Structure Harmonizing with Japanese Landscape for Holistic Wellness

Project in-detail

The harmonious integration of cross-laminated timber and charred wood elements within a carefully designed landscape creates a tranquil space dedicated to yoga and wellness practices.
5 key facts about this project
01
Utilizes cross-laminated timber panels to enhance structural strength and sustainability.
02
Incorporates charred wooden shingles for improved durability and aesthetic warmth.
03
Features a bent A-frame design that promotes natural light and spatial openness.
04
Integrates an organic garden to engage users with sustainable practices.
05
Positioned within a forested landscape to facilitate immersive wellness experiences.
The architectural design project focuses on creating a yoga facility integrated within a forested context, promoting a connection between individuals and nature. The facility encompasses distinct volumes that offer spaces for yoga practice and support activities, with an emphasis on sustainability and user experience. The architectural framework aligns with the principles of forest bathing, enhancing mental well-being through immersion in natural surroundings.

The primary structure features a tall, rounded volume designated for yoga, representing tranquility and aspiration. In contrast, lower, more utilitarian units cater to administrative and support functions. The design emphasizes open spaces that foster a sense of community while allowing for personal reflection and interaction with the environment.

Material selection underscores the project’s commitment to sustainability and aesthetic coherence. Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT) is the main construction material, valued for its environmental benefits and natural beauty. Laminated glass skylights enhance the interior with natural light, creating a calm and inviting atmosphere. Metal cladding adds durability and texture, while stone materials are used for their longevity and connection to the site.

Sustainability is further reflected in the facility's design features, including natural ventilation systems and the incorporation of photovoltaic panels. An organic garden provides a functional and educational tool, allowing users to engage with sustainable practices. The architectural organization facilitates flexible use, accommodating various wellness activities beyond yoga, such as meditation and mindfulness workshops.

Innovative spatial configurations set this project apart from similar designs. The careful arrangement of volumes creates a dialogue between built environments and the surrounding nature, enhancing the overall user experience. The transition from public to private spaces is thoughtfully engineered, allowing for both communal engagement and individual contemplation.

The project's architectural plans and sections illustrate the functional flow and interaction between different spaces. The elevations reveal how the structure diverges from conventional designs, enhancing integration with the landscape. The careful interplay of light and form elevates the experience within the facility, creating a sensory environment conducive to health and wellness.

For those seeking to explore the architectural details further, consider reviewing the architectural designs, sections, and plans. This examination will provide deeper insights into the project's unique approach to architecture and design.
