Green Break is designed to provide a calm area for people to connect with nature within an urban environment. Located in a bustling city, the pavilion serves as a retreat from daily life. It emphasizes accessibility and community, aiming to improve mental well-being by incorporating green spaces into the city landscape.

Design Concept

The project focuses on blending public space with natural elements, encouraging movement and interaction among visitors. The layout invites foot traffic, creating a welcoming environment where people can gather and enjoy the surroundings. By enhancing the relationship between architecture and nature, the design creates a shared space that accommodates diverse users.

Materiality

Key materials are chosen for their practicality and visual appeal. Corten steel roof panels are used for their durability and weathered look, which fits well with the natural setting. Additionally, 1" birch plywood sheets add warmth and texture to the interior, making it inviting for visitors.

Structural Components

The framework features cross-laminated timber posts, spacers, and beams that provide support while showcasing sustainable building practices. This choice highlights a commitment to using renewable resources, aligning with modern eco-friendly design. Landscaping fabric is incorporated to prevent soil leakage, and 3" birch hardwood includes a drainage system to promote healthy growth for nearby plants.

Design Details

Attention to detail characterizes the overall design, with hinged walls that allow for flexibility in use. This modularity enables the space to adapt to various functions as needed. The interaction between architectural features and natural elements emphasizes the value of greenery in urban settings, creating a space where nature and community come together seamlessly.
