5 key facts about this project
Vesper Yoga House is located at Vale de Moses Yoga Retreat in Portugal, where it blends into the surrounding landscape. The design reflects the concept of Vesper, a Latin word meaning nightfall, capturing a moment when day transitions into night. This idea shapes the house’s role as a place for meditation and reflection, inviting visitors to connect with nature and themselves.
Design Concept
The house features a triangular shape that reduces its visual footprint in the environment. By following the slope of the cliff, it avoids extensive excavation that could disturb the landscape. This approach shows a commitment to environmental awareness and aligns with sustainable building practices.
Spatial Organization
Vesper Yoga House has a user-friendly layout. The ground floor includes an entrance area with a closet for shoes, bags, and yoga mats, ensuring a smooth transition into the retreat experience. A locker room area with bathrooms and showers provides essential amenities. Adding a kitchen and garden space encourages interaction among visitors and fosters a communal atmosphere.
Yoga Studio
On the first floor, the yoga studio stands out with its open layout and abundant natural light. Large windows frame views of the impressive landscape, creating a peaceful and welcoming environment for practice. The design allows for flexibility, accommodating various activities while maintaining a calming atmosphere.
Materiality and Environmental Integration
The project uses local materials, such as cork wood, stone, glass, and bamboo. This choice reduces environmental impact and strengthens the connection between the building and its surroundings. Wind towers are also part of the design, providing natural ventilation. They enhance the atmosphere with the gentle sound of flowing water, further promoting relaxation and meditation.
At Vesper Yoga House, each design element works together to create a space that encourages individuals to engage with nature, leading to a thoughtful and meaningful experience.
