The project, "The Circles," is an architectural design centered around creating a hospice home for terminally ill patients in Makówka, Poland. This facility seeks to reimagine hospice care by promoting dignity, connection to nature, and a sense of community. The design prioritizes comfort and accessibility, with an emphasis on integrating the building into its natural surroundings. The layout consists of a series of interconnected circular structures that accommodate various functions, making it not only a care facility but also a welcoming environment for families and visitors.

Community Integration and Natural Harmony

One of the distinctive aspects of "The Circles" is its commitment to integrating the structure with the surrounding landscape. The circular design allows for seamless navigation and interaction among different areas, such as patient rooms, communal spaces, and recreational zones. The use of large glass facades enhances this connection, enabling natural light to permeate interiors while offering unobstructed views of the adjacent lake and forest. This approach aims to create a peaceful atmosphere conducive to healing and relaxation.

The project features specific zones that cater to the various needs of its residents. Patient care units are thoughtfully positioned on upper levels to provide privacy and scenic views, while common areas designed for social activities foster interactions among patients and families. Furthermore, unique elements such as an outdoor amphi-theater and walking paths amid gardens introduce therapeutic opportunities that encourage an active lifestyle and reduce feelings of isolation for residents.

Innovative Architectural Elements

The design employs materials that prioritize sustainability and pragmatism. Reinforced concrete establishes structural integrity, while wood finishes and glass elements create warmth and transparency. An innovative feature of the project is a footbridge traversing the treetops, allowing residents to engage with the natural environment without disrupting the surrounding ecosystem. This design choice not only enhances mobility but also embodies the project's goal of creating a harmonious coexistence between architecture and nature.

The incorporation of a dedicated lake access point facilitates leisure activities such as sailing, which can serve as a therapeutic outlet for patients. This aspect reflects the project's comprehensive view of care, where emotional and physical well-being are equally emphasized.

Readers interested in a detailed exploration of “The Circles” are encouraged to review the architectural plans, sections, and designs that further illustrate the thoughtful integration of nature and community in this hospice project. Understanding the architectural ideas behind "The Circles" will provide deeper insights into its transformative approach to end-of-life care.
