The project "In Between," located in La Puebla de Fantova, serves as an architectural endeavor that bridges the gap between an established art village and the surrounding landscape. This design integrates community needs with artistic expression, creating a space that accommodates a variety of functions, including workshops, a gallery, an open movie space, a restaurant, and a hostel. The primary objective of this project is to foster social interaction and cultural engagement among diverse users, such as local artists, tourists, and residents.

A central aspect of the project lies in its spatial configuration, which promotes fluidity and accessibility. The layout is meticulously organized to encourage movement and exploration. The open movie space is designed to host community film festivals, facilitating shared experiences. The workshop area allows for creative activities, reinforcing the project’s role as a hub for artistic development. The gallery and artist studio spaces showcase the works of local creators, further embedding the artistic ethos of the village into the architecture. The reception area is positioned to guide visitors, ensuring seamless transitions between different functional areas.

Unique Design Elements and Materiality

The architecture of "In Between" emphasizes sustainability through thoughtful material selection and innovative design principles. Local materials, such as wood, brick, tiles, and glass, are employed to create a harmonious relationship with the environment. Wood is utilized for structural stability and aesthetic warmth, while brick construction ensures durability. Tiles contribute to the beauty of the roofing, reflecting local craftsmanship.

The project incorporates natural ventilation strategies through adjustable wooden panels that enhance airflow within the building. This design decision minimizes the need for mechanical cooling, showcasing an ecological approach to climate control. Strategic roof overhangs and well-placed windows mitigate overheating and improve comfort levels year-round, underscoring a commitment to passive design.

The roof-covered walkway connecting the various structures represents a thoughtful design approach. It serves as both a functional and symbolic element, linking different zones of the project while offering shelter and inviting users to engage with the environment. This connection reinforces the project’s mission to serve as a bridge between disciplines and community members, promoting collaboration and creativity.

Social Sustainability and Community Engagement

With a strong focus on social sustainability, "In Between" cultivates community engagement through its multipurpose spaces. The project’s layout encourages interactions among artists, residents, and visitors, fostering a sense of belonging within the space. The open movie screening areas and workshops are designed to invite participation, further enhancing the cultural vibrancy of the region.

Ultimately, "In Between" exemplifies a comprehensive architectural vision that prioritizes both function and community connection. Its innovative use of materials, sustainable design strategies, and focus on social interaction sets it apart from similar projects.
